The UK window industry is dominated by national companies with big marketing budgets. Their quotes are often cheaper on paper. But the total cost — including what happens after the fit — frequently favours a local installer.
National companies typically subcontract the installation to local crews. You don't choose the fitters. You don't meet them before the day. If something goes wrong after the job, you call a call centre, not the person who did the work.
A local installer is accountable in a different way. Their reputation depends on the next person down the street. They're the ones who come back if there's a problem. That's why we use our own fitting teams — Mark and Jake, Simon, James — not subcontractors.
The other difference is the survey. National companies often use laser measures and send the data to a call-centre surveyor. A local installer comes to your house, measures the brick openings, checks the existing frames, and notes any issues before the quote.
On price, a local installer can often beat a national on equivalent spec. The national is paying for TV ads, call centres and a margin for the subcontractor. That money comes out of the product quality or the aftercare. A local firm spends it on the fit.
